Welcome to Mathematics at Old Scona!
We follow a math plan that is typical of IB schools where students complete their grade 10 and 11 math courses in grade 10 so that they can write their diploma exam in grade 11 and their IB exams in Grade 12. Students who choose to can take the Standard level Math IB course in grade 11 and 12 year, but it is not mandatory.
We encourage students to participate in a variety of math contests throughout the year. Mathematics in every Edmonton high school is focused mostly on graphing, algebra, and trigonometry with some attention paid to applying mathematics to the real world. We try to make math classes engaging by integrating technology and hands-on activities in addition to those real world problems.
